Views from the Summits:
Piegan Mountain

Piegan Mountain, Glacier National Park

This is a view of Piegan Mountain from the Piegan Pass Trail.  We are facing southwest.  Notice Mount Jackson peeking out on the left side of the photo.  The glacier resting on Piegan's east face is Piegan Glacier.

Piegan Mountain (9,220 feet) is located just northeast of Logan Pass, providing excellent views of the Logan Pass Area as well as the Jackson/Blackfoot Glacial Complex, Mount Siyeh, Heavens Peak and Mount Gould.    In otherwords, the views are tremendous all the way around!

The following photos are selections from two seperate days on the summit, two years apart.  On one of our trips to the summit, we encountered mountain goats on the summit, a Marmot standing on the summit cairn, and a herd of bighorn sheep on the way down off the saddle!  It was definitely the day for not only seeing wonderful scenery, but enjoying incredible animals as well.

This is a view from the saddle that lies between Piegan Mountain and Pollock Mountain.  We are facing west towards the Logan Pass Area.  The large matterhorn to the left is Reynolds Mountain.  The flat-topped peak to the distant right is Bear Hat Mountain.

This is a straight on view of the east slope of the Lewis Range.  There are so many peaks that we could fill up the page listing them all.  The closest peak that you see is Mount Gould.  Mount Merritt and Mount Cleveland are just a few stacked in a line northward along the continental divide.

This is a great view of the Jackson/Blackfoot Glacial Complex, far to the south of Piegan Mountain.  Mount Jackson is to the right, which is one of six mountains over ten thousand feet in the park.

There are three glaciers visible in this photo:  Piegan Glacier (below), Blackfoot Glacier (middle distance) and Jackson Glacier, which rests just to the left of Mount Jackson.

If you look carefully down the valley, you can get a glimpse of a portion of the turquoise-colored Grinnell Lake.

This is a view from the saddle that lies between Piegan and Pollock Mountains.  To climb either mountain, you first must get to this saddle.  By the way, the views from the saddle are fantastic!
