Views from the Summits:
Pollock Mountain

Pollock Mountain, Glacier National Park

The above photo is a view of Mount Pollock from the approach to Piegan Pass.

Mount Pollock Mountain (9,190) is located just east of Logan Pass, and is where the Garden Wall begins.  This peak offers tremendous views of the Logan Pass Area, as well as views of Mount Siyeh to the east and Mount Gould to the north.  This great mountain sits directly on the continental divide.

There are several ways to get to this mountain, one of which is Piegan Pass, and the other is to head up-stream at the Lunch Creek Bend on the Going-to-the-Sun Road.

This is a very large mountain, very centrally located, and is a lot of fun to climb.  There are large cliffs surrounding its summit all the way around the mountain, but fortunately there are two steep breaks, one on each side of the mountain, that allow climbers to reach the summit and enjoy the fantastic scenery.

Here we are on the summit of Pollock Mountain.  Behind us are the beautiful mountains surrounding Logan Pass.

The mountain to the right is Clements Mountain, and the mountain to the left is BearHat Mountain.  Note the trail  starting at the lower left hand corner of the photo.  This is the Hidden Lake Trail that begins at Logan Pass Visitor's Center.  This trail takes you directly between these two famous mountains.

This is a terrific view of Logan Pass, thousands of feet above it.  The view of the parking lot and Visitor's Center is blocked by the mountain in the foreground, but notice the Going-to-the-Sun Road winding down the west side of the continental divide.  You can also see the Hidden Lake Overlook trail heading into the mountains.  The photo below shows you names of all of these peaks.....

Most of the great mountains in Glacier have a summit cairn.  This is a pile of rocks that sometimes houses a register. The camera is facing north.  Note the amazing Mount Gould to the left.

The mountain to the left is Reynolds Mountain, the middle mountain is Gunsight Peak(s) with Sperry Glacier covering it's north face, and the peak to the far right is Mount Edwards.  Between Mount Edwards and the Sperry Glacier is the Sperry Headwall (Comeau Pass).  This is where guests of the Sperry Chalet enter this area to visit the glacier.

This is a view facing straight west.  The mountain to the left is Cannon Mountain.  In front of it is Mount Oberlin, and the Peak to the left is the famous Heaven's Peak.  The Going-to-the-Sun Road winds down the valley between Cannon and Heavens and ends up at Lake McDonald Lodge further to the west behind these great mountains. The valley below is over 5,500 vertical feet below us!

The large, massive peak to the left is the incredible Mount Jackson, with a portion of Jackson Glacier just to it's left.  We are facing south.

Here's a great view of the iconic Mount Gould.  We are facing straight north.  The Garden Wall begins at Pollock Mountain and runs beyond Mount Gould.  The Highline Trail is on the left (west) side of this great wall, several thousand feet below us.

This is another good look at the massive Mount Jackson to the south.  The peak just in front of Mount Jackson is Fusillade Mountain.

It was a crystal clear morning, which makes for a perfect day to be on a summit!

This is another view of Cannon Mountain to the left, and Heaven's Peak to the right.  The valley between them is where the Going-to-the-Sun Road is located as it heads west towards Lake McDonald Lodge.  This valley floor is over 5,500 vertical feet below us.

This is a photo of the famous Mount Siyeh with Piegan Pass far below us. We are facing straight east.

This is a classic view of the famous Mount Siyeh from the summit of Pollock Mountain.  We are facing straight east.  Cataract Mountain is the lower, grey-tipped mountain in the foreground.  Below Cataract Mountain is Piegan Pass, which is just out of view in this photo.  However, you can see the trail working it's way up Cataract Mountain's south slope.

This is a view of the Many Glacier Hotel from just below the summit of Pollock.  You can also see Lake Josephine and a portion of Swiftcurrent Lake.

This is a view from the saddle that sits directly between Piegan Mountain and Pollock Mountain.  This can be easily reached from Piegan Pass, and the view is fantastic.
