Views from the Summit:
Atlyn Peak
Altyn Peak (7,947 feet) is located just north of the Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park, and is a great vantage point to see the entire Many Glacier Area. The views from the summit are spectacular to say the least, and the "climb" is merely a class 2 scramble for over 3,000 vertical feet in about 2 miles.

A view of the eastern prairie from the summit of Altyn Peak.
It's fun to see the Many Glacier Hotel 3,000 vertical feet directly below us, and the views of the area's lakes, including Swiftcurrent, Josephine, Fisher Cap, Red Rock, Sherburne, Natahki and Bullhead Lakes are tremendous. The views from the summit of Altyn Peak in Glacier National Park are always a treat and always enjoyed.
Grizzly Bears
The south slope of Altyn Peak is what you see directly north of the Many Glacier Hotel, and it completely dominates the view to the north. Much of the slope is open grass and berry bushes, and during the berry season, this slope is crawling with grizzly bears.
These bears are fun to watch from the Hotel or from the road, but it's another story hiking up through those berry bushes. So to avoid "trouble", we always climb Altyn Peak early in the season before the bears start showing up.
Even though we're careful and try to avoid the berry season, we've still occasionally shared this slope with grizzlies. It's a thrill to see them, but we'd rather be watching them from the road or the hotel and not during our climbs.

When we started up the slope, Mount Wilbur was competely covered in clouds. As the sun rose into the sky, the clouds started to clear off.
