Paradise Inn is one of the true classic lodges of Mount Rainier National Park, located in the beautiful Paradise area on the south side of the mountain. Opened in 1917, this historic inn has welcomed generations of park visitors who come to experience the grandeur of Mount Rainier up close. With its rustic architecture, massive timber beams, inviting lobby, and timeless national park character, Paradise Inn gives you that wonderful feeling of stepping back into the early days of park travel while still being right in the heart of one of America’s most breathtaking landscapes.
What makes Paradise Inn so special is its location. From here, you are surrounded by sweeping mountain views, subalpine meadows, wildflowers in season, and some of the park’s most popular trails. The famous Skyline Trail begins nearby, leading hikers through unforgettable scenery with views of Mount Rainier, the Tatoosh Range, Myrtle Falls, Panorama Point, and wide-open alpine country. The Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center is also close by, making Paradise Inn a convenient and memorable basecamp for exploring this remarkable part of the park.

How to get to Paradise Inn.
Paradise Inn is reached most commonly through the Nisqually Entrance in the southwest corner of Mount Rainier National Park. From Ashford, follow State Route 706 east into the park, then continue past Longmire and up the winding Paradise Road. Paradise is about 19 miles from the Nisqually Entrance and about 12 miles beyond Longmire. The drive is beautiful, passing forest, mountain viewpoints, waterfalls, and classic Mount Rainier scenery along the way. During summer, visitors may also reach Paradise from the east via Stevens Canyon Road, when that road is open. Always check current park road conditions before heading up.

When does Paradise Inn open and close each year?
Paradise Inn is typically open from late May through early October for lodging, meals, gifts, and visitor services. It is not open year-round, mainly because Paradise sits high on Mount Rainier and receives tremendous winter snowfall. Once the season ends, the inn closes for the winter, while access to the Paradise area depends on weather, snow removal, and current road conditions. Because opening and closing dates can shift from year to year, it is always best to check the official Mount Rainier National Park updates before making plans. The National Park Inn at Longmire is typically open year-round.

Where did the name "Paradise" come from?
Paradise got its name from Martha Longmire, the daughter-in-law of James Longmire, one of the early pioneers connected to the Mount Rainier area. When Martha first saw this remarkable place, with its open meadows, wildflowers, and breathtaking views of Mount Rainier, she is said to have exclaimed, “Oh, what a paradise!” The name stayed, and it still fits perfectly today. Paradise remains one of the most loved areas in Mount Rainier National Park, known for its summer wildflower displays, sweeping mountain scenery, and easy access to some of the park’s most unforgettable trails.
