Lake Crescent Area
The Lake Crescent Area is one of the most beautiful and relaxing places in Olympic National Park. Surrounded by steep, forested mountains, Lake Crescent is known for its clear, deep blue water and peaceful shoreline. Several scenic pullouts and picnic areas provide places to enjoy the views, while trails and water activities offer plenty of ways to explore this part of the park.
Located along the south shore of the lake, historic Lake Crescent Lodge has welcomed visitors since 1915. The lodge features rustic accommodations, a dining room, cozy common areas and a large grassy lawn overlooking the water. Even if you are not staying overnight, the lodge is a wonderful place to stop, walk along the shoreline and take in the quiet beauty of Lake Crescent.
Nearby, the Marymere Falls Trail begins near the Storm King Ranger Station. This enjoyable hike travels through a beautiful old-growth forest filled with towering trees, moss and ferns. The trail is about 1.8 miles round trip and leads to Marymere Falls, where the water drops approximately 90 feet through a narrow, forested canyon. Together, Lake Crescent, Lake Crescent Lodge and Marymere Falls make this area a highlight of any Olympic National Park vacation.

Lake Crescent
Lake Crescent is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Olympic National Park. Located about 18 miles west of Port Angeles, this glacially carved lake stretches approximately 11.8 miles and reaches a maximum depth of 624 feet. Its impressive depth, combined with low nitrogen levels that limit algae growth, helps give the lake its famous clear water and deep blue color.
Lake Crescent provides a wide variety of recreational opportunities throughout the warmer months. Kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and sailing are popular ways to explore the lake, especially during the calm morning hours. Motorized boating is also permitted, with boat launches located near the eastern and western ends of the lake. Swimming is available from several shoreline areas, but the water remains extremely cold, even during the summer. Life jackets are strongly recommended whenever you are on the water.
Fishing is another popular activity at Lake Crescent, which is home to the unique Beardslee and Crescenti trout. Picnic areas and scenic shoreline access points provide plenty of places to relax and enjoy the surrounding mountains and forests. Whether you are paddling across the water, fishing, swimming or simply enjoying the view, Lake Crescent is an unforgettable Olympic National Park destination.

Lake Crescent Lodge
Lake Crescent Lodge is a historic national park lodge located along the southern shoreline of beautiful Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park. Originally known as Singer’s Tavern, the lodge opened in 1916 and has welcomed park visitors for more than a century. President Franklin D. Roosevelt stayed here in 1937 while touring the Olympic Peninsula, shortly before Olympic National Park was established in 1938. Today, the lodge remains an important part of the park’s history and classic character.
The main lodge features a comfortable lobby, large stone fireplace and inviting sunroom overlooking the lake. A restaurant, lounge and gift shop are also located on the property, making it a convenient place to relax after exploring the surrounding area.
Lake Crescent Lodge offers several types of accommodations, including historic lodge rooms, lakeside cabins and cottage-style rooms. The Roosevelt Fireplace Cottages are especially popular because of their private bathrooms, fireplaces and peaceful setting near the water. Singer Tavern Cottages and Pyramid Mountain Rooms provide additional choices for couples, families and small groups.
With its beautiful lakeside location, rich history and wide range of accommodations, Lake Crescent Lodge provides a wonderful place to stay while exploring the northern portion of Olympic National Park.

Where is Lake Crescent Lodge located?
Lake Crescent Lodge is located on Barnes Point along the southern shore of Lake Crescent in the northern portion of Olympic National Park. The lodge is about 25 miles west of Port Angeles and is easily reached from U.S. Highway 101, the main highway circling the Olympic Peninsula. From Highway 101, turn onto Lake Crescent Road and follow it approximately one-half mile to the lodge and parking area. Visitors coming from Forks can follow Highway 101 east for about 35 miles. Its convenient location makes Lake Crescent Lodge an easy stop while traveling between Port Angeles, Forks and the western areas of Olympic National Park.

Marymere Falls Trail
The Marymere Falls Trail is one of the most popular and enjoyable hikes in the Lake Crescent Area of Olympic National Park. The trail begins near the Storm King Ranger Station and can also be reached from the Lake Crescent Lodge area. The hike is approximately 1.8 miles round trip and leads through a beautiful old-growth forest to the base of Marymere Falls.
The first portion of the trail is relatively level as it winds beneath towering Douglas fir, western hemlock and cedar trees. Thick moss, ferns and other rainforest vegetation cover the forest floor, creating the classic scenery for which Olympic National Park is known. Along the way, the trail crosses beneath U.S. Highway 101 and continues toward Barnes Creek.
Near the falls, the trail becomes steeper and climbs a series of steps to two viewing areas. Marymere Falls drops approximately 90 feet through a narrow, forested canyon surrounded by moss-covered rock walls. The viewing platforms provide excellent places to enjoy the waterfall and take photographs.
With its manageable distance, impressive old-growth forest and beautiful waterfall, the Marymere Falls Trail is a wonderful hike for families and visitors spending time around Lake Crescent. The trail can become wet and slippery, so sturdy walking shoes are recommended.
