Ruby Beach

Ruby Beach is one of the most scenic and popular beaches along the Pacific Coast of Olympic National Park. Located in the park’s southern coastal section, Ruby Beach is known for its rugged shoreline, dramatic sea stacks and large pieces of driftwood scattered across the beach. The combination of ocean waves, rocky islands and dense coastal forest makes this a wonderful place to experience the wild beauty of the Olympic Peninsula.

A short trail leads downhill from the parking area through the forest to the beach. Once you reach the shoreline, you can walk in either direction and explore tide pools, rock formations and the many sea stacks rising from the ocean. Abbey Island, located just offshore, is one of the most recognizable features at Ruby Beach and provides an excellent backdrop for photographs.

Low tide is the best time to explore the rocky sections of the beach and look for marine life in the tide pools. Visitors should check the tide schedule before arriving and remain aware of changing ocean conditions. Large waves and floating driftwood can be dangerous.

Ruby Beach is an outstanding place for beachcombing, photography, picnicking and watching the sunset. Its easy access and incredible coastal scenery make it a highlight of any Olympic National Park vacation.
