Views from the Summits:
This is a view of Flinsch Peak from the east. We are on the long, long ridge between Flinsch and Rising Wolf when we took this photo. As you can see, the summit of Flinsch is quite small, which is typical of a classic matterhorn. The lake below is Young Man Lake.
Flinsch Peak (9,225 feet) is a famous matterhorn in the Two Medicine Area. Hikers who reach Dawson Pass get a great view of Flinsch directly to their north, and the views on the top of this wonderful mountain are outstanding.
A matterhorn is a mountain that has been carved out by at least three glaciers, and Flinsch is classic. Every side of this mountain is extremely steep, and it rises to a very sharp point, making the summit quite small in size. Because of this, the feeling of "being high" is tremendous, and no matter how many times we've climbed Flinsch, we always enjoy it beyond what words can describe.
On this particular day, the clouds were climbing out the valleys and flying over the summits. In fact, we couldn't see Flinsch until we began climbing the last set of cliffs. It was really a cloudy day and we were wondering if we were going to see anything once we summitted. When we reached the summit, everything was totally white. We couldn't we our hands in front of our face, but in a few minutes the clouds started breaking up. Every second the view changed. Sometimes you couldn't see anything, and then 10 seconds later, you could see EVERYTHING. And just quickly as the view would open up and blue sky would appear, the clouds would climb out of the valleys below and cover everything up again.
But one thing about Flinsch, no matter what the weather is like, the views are awe-inspiring, and it's impossible to have a bad day on this famous matterhorn.

The lake far below is Young Man Lake, and the tiny lake beyond it is Boy Lake. Above these lakes is Rising Wolf Mountain, and the lake far to the upper right is Two Medicine Lake. This view from Flinsch Peak is to the east.
Here we are on Flinsch Peak after the clouds parted. (The camera is facing north.)
The clouds were very heavy and were sitting in the valleys while we were climbing Flinsch. Then the clouds decided to climb out of the valleys and literally fly over the summits, and then disappear into the sky.

The view to the north of Flinsch Peak is awesome! (The lake below Shannon is Young Man Lake.)
Every time we climb Flinsch Peak we really enjoy ourselves!
