The easiest way to get to Helen Lake is begin your hike at the Chief Mountain Customs Trailhead and take the pleasant Belly River Trail. This is a 13.6 mile hike (one way).
Helen Lake is a popular hike for overnight backpackers who are staying at Elizabeth Lake in Glacier National Park. Helen Lake is only 4.3 miles from the foot of Elizabeth Lake, and only 2.7 from the head of Elizabeth Lake. Helen Lake is nestled directly underneath the great east face of Ahern Peak, and the Pinnacle Wall, and the scenery is wonderful. There is a backcountry campground available at Helen Lake, but make sure you book your reservations early to ensure that you get a campsite.
